The Hidden Power Of Aesthetics In Exterior Workplace Design

I’m very excited to chat about this topic with you! Being deeply involved in the world of aesthetics and function, I understand how even exterior appearances make such a difference in how potential clients view your business.

How your workplace looks can have a tremendous impact on your business. Getting it right can mean the difference between operating a thriving firm and barely making it by every month.

Most companies pay attention to their workplace’s interiors, and rightly so. But they neglect to consider exteriors, which can often look dystopian and uninviting.

The purpose of this post is to explain some of the hidden power of proper aesthetics in exterior workplace design. You’ll learn some of the benefits it creates and why it is so beneficial all-round.

Here’s my studio in Akron, Ohio! When I’m not using it, I love to rent it out to other creatives so they can utilize the space, too. Check for availability here!

It Improves The Employee Experience

The first benefit is that it improves the employee experience significantly. Workers arrive in the morning feeling proud of where they work, relaxed, and comfortable in the attractive environment.

Key things to include in exteriors are green areas, plenty of angles for natural light to enter, and lots of courtyards and communal outdoor spaces for friendly work-related chats. Adding all of these might not be possible at your location, but you’ll want to try to tick some of these boxes. Just a little bit of greenery on a building’s exterior can change how workers feel, encouraging them to bring their A-game to the office.

It Enhances Brand Identity

Another benefit of exterior building aesthetics is that it enhances your brand identity. It lets you say things you could never say with your logo or typeface.

We’ve all been bowled over by spectacular architecture when visiting companies in person. Some brands just understand how to get it right and overwhelm and delight our senses.

For instance, many banks and law firms go for exteriors that communicate seriousness, trustworthiness, and professionalism. Their buildings’ exteriors exude confidence in their professional services.

However, we’ve also seen companies that focus more extensively on making traditional buildings for a boutique feel or designing them to be as ostentatious as possible.

It Improves Productivity

Exterior workplace design can also have a profound impact on productivity. Research shows that offices that imitate or replicate nature help colleagues work better than purely synthetic environments.

Interestingly, the benefits extend over multiple domains of work, including problem-solving and job satisfaction. In other words, colleagues are likely to feel happier and come up with better ideas on the fly.

It Shows You Embracing Sustainability

Embracing sustainability is another reason companies are changing their building’s exteriors. Many are using it as a showcase to promote their brand values and communicate corporate social responsibility.

For example, we are seeing many firms repair instead of replace commercial concrete. This reduces the amount of material used and cuts CO2 emissions. We are also seeing the development of green walls, solar panel roofs, and conspicuous energy-saving measures on buildings’ exteriors.

It Creates A Memorable First Impression

Finally, exterior workplace design creates a memorable first impression. People will remember a building with high-quality architecture and stunning exterior features.

A great exterior is particularly valuable for companies that rely on foot traffic to make sales. The best-looking buildings are the most likely to encourage passers-by to enter and start spending money.
